Wuchang: Fallen Feathers [a] is an upcoming Soulslike action role-playing game developed by Leenzee and published by 505 Games. The player assumes the role of Wuchang, a female pirate, embarking on a journey through the war-torn and plagued lands of Shu.
The game is scheduled to release for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2025.
Gameplay
[edit]Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a Soulslike action role-playing game.[3][4][5][6] It is played in single-player mode [7] from a third-person perspective.[5]
The player controls Wuchang, a female pirate, who wields a variety of weapons.[5] She starts with the Cloudfrost's Edge, a weapon based on a changdao, a type of single-edged longsword historically favored by elite vanguard soldiers and coastal pirates.[1] The combat system centers around Skyborn Might―the power granted to Wuchang by the Feathering Disease―which enables her to use weapon skills tied to her equipped weapon and discipline skills tied to the weapon type.[1] There are twenty-five unique weapons, each offering a distinct combat style, spread across five weapon types.[8] A primary and secondary weapon can be equipped.[8]
In addition, Wuchang is able to cast spells.[9] There are forty different spells, which can be assigned to four spell slots.[8]
When the player character kills a humanoid enemy or dies, her Inner Demon intensifies, eventually manifesting as a glowing mark at the nape of her neck, indicating that her abilities are enhanced but also that she is more susceptible to damage.[3] If the mark is active when she dies, the Inner Demon becomes hostile and haunts the area where she perished.[3] It takes the shape of Wuchang herself, with her weapons, spells, and items.[3]
The game takes place in a world with interconnected areas.[1][10] It is possible to traverse seamlessly between areas, but they may be locked off from the other side.[1] There are altars, which act as checkpoints for the player.[3] The player character respawns at the last visited altar after a defeat.[1]
Synopsis
[edit]Setting
[edit]Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is set in the late Ming dynasty of China.[1][3][4][5][11] It has five chapters.[1][10]
A lore trailer, released in February 2025, depicted a mythical war between avian factions led by Duyu (杜宇) and Bieling (鳖灵), set before the events of the game.[8]
Plot
[edit]Wuchang, a female pirate, suffers from amnesia and is afflicted with the Feathering Disease that transforms its victims into monstrous beings.[1] She journeys through Shu, a land devasted by warring factions and this affliction turning its people.[4]
Development
[edit]Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is a game developed by Leenzee and published by 505 Games.[3][4] The game is build on Unreal Engine 5.[8]
The game draws inspiration from ancient societies in Shu such as Sanxingdui and Jinsha as well as historical or mythical elements in literature such as Shuwang Benji (蜀王本纪), Jinse (锦瑟), and Shanhaijing (山海经).[12]
Release
[edit]Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is scheduled to release for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S in 2025.[3][4][5][6] It will be available on day one through Xbox Game Pass.[5][6]
Leenzee first revealed the game with a live demonstration at the High Energy Video Game Festival (高能电玩节), organized by Bilibili, on 17 September 2021.[13] It was in development for about a year and a half at the time.[14] During the Xbox Games Showcase in June 2024, they released an announcement trailer revealing that the game would come in 2025.[15]
