Will Stone is a British Labour Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament for Swindon North since 2024.[1]
Early life
[edit]Will Stone was born in Swindon and was an Army rifleman in the 1st Battalion, The Rifles.[2][3]
Political career
[edit]Stone was elected as a councillor on Swindon Borough Council for the ward of Rodbourne Cheney in 2022.[4] As a councillor, Stone called for more support for veterans.[5]
He won the Swindon North seat for Labour at the 2024 general election, defeating the Conservative incumbent Justin Tomlinson by a margin of 4,103 votes (9.3%).[1]
In early 2025, Stone was appointed as a 'business champion' of defence and green technology by the Labour Party.[6]
In November 2024, the Crown Prosecution Service dropping charges brought against Ivy Mwangi, originally brought against her in relation to the death of Harry Parker, who died after being struck by a car in November 2022.[7][8] In response, on 4 February 2025, Stone introduced the Road Traffic (Unlicensed Drivers) Bill to Parliament. According to Stone, the bill sought to close a "dangerous gap" in the law, which had led to the charges being dropped.[9][10] The bill passed its first reading and, according to Sky News, the Government is planning to adopt the bill as part of its new Road Safety Strategy.[11]
Stone has expressed his support for Conservative anti-protest legislation and of custodial sentences for people who protest for more action against climate change.[12]
Personal life
[edit]Stone is a black belt in both Judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu. In November 2024, he was defeated by Matt Inman in a charity jiu-jitsu match.[13][14]
