Disambiguation links
[edit]This article has 324 links to disambiguation pages (Shown on this list). These are generally unhelpful to the reader. You can highlight these by going to your preferences (drop down menu top right) and selecting the gadgets tab, then scroll down to "Appearance" & put a tick next to "Display links to disambiguation pages in orange". Any help with fixing them would be appreciated.— Rod talk 08:39, 16 March 2025 (UTC)
- I have fixed around 250 of these, however there are still 87 to be tackled. These are either unlear what is intended or we do not appear to have an article for the relevant entity.— Rod talk 13:16, 16 March 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, Rod, thanks so much for doing this. I didn't correctly input all of the regions' names, and some of their full names may be visible on the full table on globaldatalab, and some of them are arbitrary compass regions, like "south", which will not have articles as they're not commonly discussed regions, but were rather selected for unclear reasons in the UN report. I will look through the disambig list to see if there's any others that can be fixed. Thanks again, WikiMacaroonsCinnamon? 13:54, 16 March 2025 (UTC)
- The Region numbers for the entries for Chad do not seem to correspond at all to the numbers given in https://ergngevd.top/w/index.php?title=Provinces_of_Chad.
- Really think this table needs to be split somehow as making the smallest changes takes forever johnmark†:Talk(talk to me) 21:45, 17 March 2025 (UTC)

Proposal: Split this list into separate lists
[edit]This article is very long right now (around 2 million bytes) and is also quite laggy, especially on low-end devices. ESPECIALLY when you're trying to edit it. Even a simple edit takes forever to save. This is mostly due to the table not only being quite long, but also being very WIDE, with each row having 28 columns.
Perhaps we should split this list up into separate articles by continent (or continents)? A list for countries in Europe, a list for countries in Asia, etc. Or have multiple continents in a single list (ex: a list for countries in Europe AND Asia).
Or we could split it up by decades. One article for the 2000s rankings, one article for the 2010s rankings, something like that.
I'm open to other suggestions. ApexParagon (talk) 01:50, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
- ApexParagon, I agree that the lag and size of article is an issue. I do believe there should be an article that details the HDI of every subnational region, as there are articles for the subnational regions of most countries. Another option would just be to have this article show the most recent data (2022). I originally made it so the table used the full dataset, which went back to 1990, but attempts to make that edit live were foiled by Wikipedia's edit size limit - that should have been the first red flag really. I also like the decades idea, which we could write while heavily contextualising it within the UN's HDI report. It would be good to know community consensus on this, but personally I am in favour of only showing the 2022 data. WikiMacaroonsCinnamon? 22:39, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
- Even cutting off at 2010 instead of 2000 would make a difference tbh. If people want to see HDIs from before 2010 they can just visit the references ApexParagon (talk) 23:39, 19 March 2025 (UTC)
- I agree that only the 2022 data should be shown. The article's title would still be an accurate description. yutsi (talk) 20:46, 20 March 2025 (UTC)
- Ok,
Done WikiMacaroonsCinnamon? 12:25, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
- I tried a version at Draft:List of subnational entities by Human Development Index which keeps all the years but uses templatestyles to reduce the wikitext from 2081 kB to 730 kB (similar to the largest at Special:LongPages) without changing the appearance. All the styling is now in Template:Human Development Index classes/styles.css. I made the table less wide by placing sort arrows below the header text and inserting soft hyphens in two column headings. I have also added a small TOC to the table with the four classifications. - Now I have also omitted the initial "0." from the scores in the draft and reduced some header paddings to make the table more narrow. Apart from the wasted space, I think the endless "0." (around 42,000 times) also made it harder to compare scores. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:33, 21 March 2025 (UTC)
