Yellowfin is a global Business Intelligence (BI), Embedded Analytics, dashboard and reporting software vendor. It develops and markets a suite of products that are used to transform, access, analyze and report on data held in common business data stores including spreadsheets, Web APIs and databases.

History

Yellowfin was founded in Melbourne, Australia in 2003 by Glen Rabie and Justin Hewitt. In 2014, BMC Software chose Yellowfin as the supplier of the embedded business analytics software behind its Remedy Smart Reporting ITSM solution.[1] In 2017, global shipping and mailing company Pitney Bowes partnered with Yellowfin to deliver a Visual Insights and business intelligence tool for Pitney Bowes customers.[2][3] As of January 2022 Yellowfin has been a subsidiary of Idera, Inc.[4], alongside Assembla, Embarcadero Technologies, FusionCharts, LANSA, Ranorex Gmbh, Travis CI, and Wherescape.

Platform

The Yellowfin Business Intelligence Software platform is built on a scalable Java core with JavaScript UX. Yellowfin works with data in existing sources, including JDBC compliant databases such as SQLServer, Oracle, Exasol, Snowflake, Redshift, XML/A compliant cubes such as Microsoft Analysis Services, SAP BW, Oracle Essbase, CSV files, and third-party sources including applications like Salesforce and Google Analytics. Yellowfin also has a Self-Service Guided Natural Language Query (NLQ) capability.

The Yellowfin platform supports enterprise analytics and embedded analytics with a primary focus on Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs): Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and Software as a Service (SaaS) application providers that want to embed dashboard and reporting capabilities into their products.
